Single Parent 'Rising While Raising' Scholarship

The Single Parent ‘Rising While Raising’ Scholarship is designed to support students who are single parents as they pursue their educational goals while balancing family responsibilities. This scholarship recognizes the resilience, determination, and commitment required to continue one’s education while raising children.

Qualifications

  • Applicant’s cumulative GPA must be a 2.50 minimum.
  • Applicant must currently be enrolled at least as a half-time student (i.e. enrolled in at least 6 units)

Essay Requirements

  1. In 300 to 400 words, describe how being a single parent has shaped your educational journey. You may reflect on challenges you have navigated, strengths you have developed, and how this experience influences your academic goals and future plans.
  2. Write a short statement addressing your financial need. (Maximum 300 words)

  3. By checking this box, you acknowledge that applicants awarded a scholarship will be required to attend an in-person award ceremony hosted on campus at San Jose City College. Attendance at the award ceremony will be mandatory for all scholarship recipients, unless the student has a class scheduled during the time of the ceremony or if the student has an extenuating circumstance. You also acknowledge that you will be required to submit a "Thank-You Letter" to the donor(s) providing the scholarship opportunity.
