Carole Young Memorial Transfer Scholarship

Opportunity Information
In memory of Carole Young – beloved friend, colleague and counselor at San Jose City College – the Young family and the SJECCD Foundation have established a memorial scholarship in honor of her 40+ years of dedicated service.

This award is for students that will be transferring to a four-year institution that is also a HBCU (Historically Black College and University).

Qualifications

  • Applicant be accepted into a HBCU (Historically Black College and University) as a full-time student.
  • Applicant must be part of the SJCC Umoja Program.
  • Applicant have completed at least 50 units at San Jose City College.
  • Applicant must currently be enrolled as a full-time student (i.e. enrolled in at least 12 units).
  • Applicant’s cumulative GPA must be a 2.5 minimum.

Essay Requirement
Introduce yourself. Explain your thoughts on the importance of education. How do you plan to use your education to improve your community? (250 – 500 words)

  4. By checking this box, you acknowledge that applicants awarded a scholarship will be required to attend an in-person award ceremony hosted on campus at San Jose City College. Attendance at the award ceremony will be mandatory for all scholarship recipients, unless the student has a class scheduled during the time of the ceremony or if the student has an extenuating circumstance. You also acknowledge that you will be required to submit a "Thank-You Letter" to the donor(s) providing the scholarship opportunity.
