The Association of Black Employees (TABE) Presents The Breonna Taylor Memorial Scholarship:
The Breonna Taylor Memorial scholarship provides a way to invest in a new generation of young scholars, poised and ready to be leaders in our community and our nation. The scholarship seeks to increase the number of disproportionately impacted students who will impact learning in a positive manner.

Qualifications

  • Applicant is required to join the Umoja Community if selected as a continuing student if they are not already involved with Umoja. Applicant must be an active Umoja student if a transfer student.
  • Applicant must not be a recipient of the George Floyd Memorial Scholarship
  • Applicant’s cumulative GPA must be a 2.00 minimum
  • Applicant must have completed at least 6 units at San Jose City College.
  • Applicant must currently be enrolled at least as a half-time student (i.e. enrolled in at least 6 units).
  • Applicant must be enrolled at least as a half-time student (i.e. enrolled in at least 6 units) at either SJCC or a four-year institution in the upcoming Fall semester.
  • Applicant must have a FAFSA submitted to determine financial need
  • Applicant must be a United States citizen or Permanent Resident

Essay Requirement
Please select ONE of the following topics. Essay must be typed, double-spaced, 1-2 pages:

  1. What is your definition of social justice and what place does it have in your life?
  2. How have you contributed to your community?

  3. By checking this box, you acknowledge that applicants awarded a scholarship will be required to attend an in-person award ceremony hosted on campus at San Jose City College. Attendance at the award ceremony will be mandatory for all scholarship recipients, unless the student has a class scheduled during the time of the ceremony or if the student has an extenuating circumstance. You also acknowledge that you will be required to submit a "Thank-You Letter" to the donor(s) providing the scholarship opportunity.
