Asian Pacific American Association (APAA) Thau "Hien" Huynh Memorial Scholarship
Opportunity Information
Thau “Hien” Huynh was a Vietnam War refugee who fled his homeland due to fear of ethnic persecution. Upon resettling in the United States, Mr. Huynh found employment as an assembly line worker and earnestly rebuilt his life from scratch. In 1997, Mr. Huynh was diagnosed with cancer and after a courageous four-year struggle, succumbed to the disease in 2001.
Mr. Huynh did not have the opportunity to pursue education when he resettled in the United States, but he worked tirelessly to provide educational opportunities for his two daughters. As a way to remember and honor Mr. Huynh’s sacrifices and courage, his daughters established this memorial scholarship.
The Thau “Hien” Huynh Memorial Scholarship was created in partnership the SJECCD Asian Pacific American Association and is intended for first generation college students who are passionate about and committed to serving communities of struggle. We highly encourage students of all abilities and diverse racial, ethnic, religious, sexual, and gender identities and expression to apply as well as those that are undocumented, under-documented, parenting without support, and eager to rebuild their lives.
